THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) welcomed the announcement of Mayor Michael Rama that he will double the monthly allowance of police officers from P2,500 to P5,000.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy city director for administration of CCPO, Rama had already requested the City Council to include in their budget for next year the increase in allowance of the police, adding this will also boost their morale.

Parilla said this will also encourage their men to double their efforts in performing their jobs.

“Yes dako kaayog tabang considering nga 5,000 sa atong mga personnel, duha nana ka sakong bugas ang mapalit ana,” Parilla said.

(Yes this is a big help considering the P5,000 (increase) for our personnel can already buy two sacks of rice.)

Parilla said the P2,500 increase is just appropriate for the city’s police personnel because of their busyness compared to other policemen in other police stations in Central Visayas.

Policemen in Cebu City are required to work 12 hours a day due to the many incidents that they have to respond.

The additional budget that the City has to spend for the additional allowance of policemen is around P4.7 million.

The CCPO has around 900 non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and 30 commissioned officers.

The allowance of commissioned officers ranges from P8,000 to P10,000, which is relatively lower than that of NCOs.

During his courtesy call to Rama at the City Hall, Police Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) Director Brigadier General Roderick Augustus Alba said the mayor also promised increase the allowance of PRO 7 personnel in the future.

Councilor Philip Zafra, chairman of the Committee on Peace and Order, said the purchase of vehicles for 13 police stations in the city and another two police cars and 26 motorcycles for the CCPO headquarters will also be included in the budget for next year. (AYB, TPT)
