A FOUL smell coming from a house in Purok 3, Barangay Malayo Sur in the town of Cortes, Bohol prompted one barangay official to call the police on Tuesday morning, October 25, 2022.
Police officers, along with personnel of the Cortes Municipal Health, arrived to investigate.
When they checked inside, they found the decomposing body of a woman.
Staff Sergeant Jonathan Omayan of the Cortes Police Station identified her as 76-year-old Melina Icong.
They learned that Icong, who originally hailed from Tangub City in Misamis Occidental, was single and she lived alone.
Malayo Sur Barangay Councilor Nestor Tabigue said he noticed the stench because he lived in the vicinity. When he tried to locate its source, it led him to Icong’s house.
He suspected something was wrong when the lights inside were on even though it was morning. He said he immediately reported the matter to authorities.
Omayan said Dr. Maria Louela Batingal, the municipal health officer of Cortes, ruled out foul play in the case of Icong’s death. (BBT, PJB)
