THE 2023 Sinulog Ritual Showdown venue at the South Road Properties (SRP) will have a seating capacity of around 9,000, according to an official of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI).

SFI executive director Elmer “Jojo” Labella told SunStar Cebu in a phone interview on Saturday, January 14, they initially planned for the venue to accommodate only 6,000 people. However, due to the possibility of fair weather for the event on Sunday, January 15, Labella said work is ongoing to increase the capacity of the bleachers to 9,000 to accommodate both holders of general admission tickets and VIP tickets or guests of the City Government and Mayor Michael Rama.

“Ga-extend ta karon sa mga seats and I think nga moabot ta og 9,000 siguro kay atu pa gitrabaho diri kay daghan-daghan gyud ning manan-aw kay nindot ang atung weather karon,” Labella said.

(We are extending the seats and I think these will reach 9,000 but we are working on it since we expect a lot of people to show up because the weather will be good.)

“Mayta ingani ugma nga walay uwan pero dili init. Mao mani nahitabo sa (Sinulog sa) Kabataan. Nagtaligsik ra kadyot,” he added.

(We hope it won’t rain but it won’t be too hot either. This is what happened during the (Sinulog sa) Kabataan. There was a slight drizzle that didn’t last long.)

Labella said the public can still buy tickets on Sunday outside the event’s premises.

The tickets, which can be bought at P500 each, are also available at the SFI office at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Organizers earlier said tickets were not available online.

“Tickets will be available at the gates. We don’t want to have an ‘overcapacity.’ Also, it’s first come, first served,” Labella said in Cebuano. (EHP)
