MEMBERS of the Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) sector in Cebu are worried that more than half of their members might lose their means of livelihood should the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reduce their number.

LTFRB recently announced that it will only allow 1,500 TNVS units to operate in Cebu.

Members of the TNVS sector from Cebu, Metro Manila, Pampanga and Bacolod sent a letter to President Rodrigo Duterte and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade for their intervention on the matter.

Bimbo Grana, a member of the TNVS sector based in Cebu, said if the LTFRB pushes for the deactivation of around 1,500 TNVS units in the region, thousands of families will be affected.

More than 3,000 TNVS drivers under 15 groups are operating in Cebu.

One of the things that they are concerned about is the plan to add more requirements in getting a Provisional Authority (PA) and the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) and a bank conformity to be able to operate as a TNVS.

Rodolfo Hermosa, another TNVS driver, said that if those documents become part of the mandatory requirements, LTFRB better speed up the issuance of the PA and the CPC

documents.

Meanwhile, the group has opposed the plan of their fellow drivers in Metro Manila to conduct a transport holiday on Monday, July 8, 2019.

Separately, LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra said they have not received any notice from the TNVS sector in Cebu regarding their concern.

Delgra also regarded the plan of TNVS drivers in Metro Manila to hold a transport holiday as “without basis.” (from HBL of Super Balita Cebu/JKV)
