A 41-year-old trisikad driver was arrested for stabbing his father in Sitio Guiwanon, Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu on Tuesday evening, July 12, 2022.
Corporal Jem Vincent Pacaldo of Dalaguete Police Station identified the suspect as Cirilo Ocampo.
Pacaldo said a concerned citizen informed them about the stabbing incident around 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
When they responded to the area, Cirilo's father, Angelo, was already wounded in his back, hands and stomach after being stabbed by his own son.
Angelo said during police investigation that he locked the door of his room to prevent his son from entering as the latter turns violent when he gets drunk.
But Cirilo forced the door open and without any hesitation stabbed his father with an icepick.
The neighbors were awakened by the noise, prompting Ocampo to flee.
Angelo was brought to Argao District Hospital but was later transferred to Carcar District Hospital as his stomach started to bloat.
The Dalaguete police later arrested Cirilo after receiving information that the suspect was hiding in the cemetery.
The suspect was also brought in the same hospital where his father was admitted as he had injury on his left eyebrow.
"Wala man ni silay panaglalis o away nga nahitabo usa ang insidente, nakainom ra gyud ang suspetsado mao na dunggaban niya iyang amahan," Pacaldo said.
(They were not arguing prior to the incident, the suspect was just drunk at that time which led him to stab his father).
Cirilo, however, told the police that he was punched by his father prompting him to retaliate.
Pacaldo said Angelo is determined to file a case against his son but the siblings of Cirilo said that they will still talk to their father to settle the matter. (GDC, TPT)
