THE University of Cebu (UC)-Bachelor of Arts (BA) alumni are calling all graduates to join the feeding and mangrove planting activities in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City on July 27-28, 2019.

The UC-BA program covers courses major in Political Science, Psychology, English, Economics and History.

Ramir Salonoy, member of the Olango Island event’s steering committee, said they are inviting graduates of the BA program from the year 2000 onwards. However, he said it is also open to all batches even before 2000 as the event is a prelude to UC’s grand homecoming in December.

“The activities are open to all BA graduates who want to join. We encourage them to register with us so as to include them in the homecoming event that will be held in December this year,” Salonoy said.

On Saturday, July 27, the group will conduct a feeding program for around 200 community and school children in Barangay San Vicente. Local officials are expected to join.

On Sunday, July 28, the group will proceed with the planting of 150 mangrove propagules in Olango Island.

Catherine Jakosalem, faculty and member of the UC alumni association, said their batch is venturing into community outreach activities aside from the usual get-togethers and annual beach-outing events.

“We want to give back to the community in our own little way. As professionals, we can always make a difference. This is what we learned from our alma mater,” Jakosalem said.

Salonoy and Jakosalem are inviting all batches of the arts program of UC to join in the Olango Island activities as they would conduct an initial planning session for the grand alumni homecoming for BA graduates.

They are also calling for support as their batch will venture in a regular community livelihood program in coordination with the alumni affairs and UC chancellor Candice Gotianuy.

Interested alumni who want to join feeding and mangrove-planting activities in Olango Island are required to pay P1,200.

The group will assemble at Angasil port in Lapu-Lapu City at 6:30 a.m. on July 27. The activities will be opened with a program at the Sagastrand beach Resort in Barangay San Vicente.

Interested alumni may contact Jethro Malvin Bacolod (09991030279) and Ramir Salonoy (09232004042.) (S)
