Visayan Electric restores power to 63.34% of its affected customers in Metro Cebu

THE power restoration efforts in Metro Cebu by Visayan Electric Company reached 63.34 percent on Friday, January 14, 2022, 29 days after Typhoon Odette (Rai) brought destruction to Cebu's central and southern cities and towns.

The percentage constitutes 300,392 of its 474,182 affected customers within the power distributor's franchise area, according to Visayan Electric's 12 p.m. bulletin .

Reenergized areas are in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Naga, and in the municipalities of San Fernando, Minglanilla, Consolacion and Liloan.

The power distributor still has to restore power to 173,790 customers in the next 17 days to reach its 100 percent target by January 31.

Visayan Electric had targeted to restore power to 30 percent or 142,255 of its consumers by December 31, 2021 and 80 percent or 379,346 of its consumers by January 10; however, it missed both of its targets–as of 12 p.m. December 31, power was restored to only 27.49 percent or 130,371 of its customers; as of 12 p.m. January 10, electricity was only restored to 50.84 percent or 241,121 of its 474,182 customers.

Visayan Electric's franchise area comprises cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Naga, and four municipalities of Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla and San Fernando. (KAL)
