A 58-YEAR-OLD construction worker will be facing murder charges over the death of his foreman who was killed with a steel pipe in Mandaue City on Monday, August 14, 2023.

Witnesses claimed the suspect, Fausto Quiño, killed Isidro Cameros, 57, after Cameros reprimanded him for pouring cement over the wrong building pillar.

Major Andy Michael Roque, officer-in-charge of Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Station 1 in Barangay Centro, said they will assist the victim’s family in filing the murder complaint after gathering affidavits.

Roque said they are awaiting statements from Quiño’s co-workers to corroborate the case against the suspect.

According to the initial investigation, Quiño and Cameros argued after the victim scolded Quiño in front of other construction workers.

Cameros then allegedly threatened to withhold Quiño’s overtime pay, which may have angered him prompting him to kill the victim.

Roque said Quiño used a pointed metal tube, typically used in making a scaffolding, to hit Cameros twice in the forehead and once in the chest. The weapon was turned over to MCPO Station 1.

Cameros’ co-workers called for help and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Quiño tried to flee the scene, but he was caught by his fellow workers who then turned him over to the police.

In a separate interview, Quiño said he killed Cameros in a fit of anger. He said the victim’s accusation that he made a mistake in pouring cement was wrong and it had humiliated him.

Quiño added he feared that Cameros would fire him, which would have prevented him from supporting his children’s education.

The suspect is now detained at the MCPO Station 1.
