WTE facility to be built in Barangay Guba, Cebu City

THE country’s first large-scale waste-to-energy (WTE) facility will be built in the mountain barangay of Guba in Cebu City.

The seven-hectare property was chosen by the New Sky Energy Philippines Inc. due to its accessibility and proximity to water and electric supply.

Councilor Joel Garganera, environment committee chairman, told SunStar Cebu on Thursday, January 5, 2023, the proponent is waiting for permits from various government offices to start the project.

Garganera said a public hearing will be conducted in the affected community before Mayor Michael Rama will give his approval for the construction.

Last September, the Cebu City Government and the private firm entered into a joint-venture agreement for the construction of the P4.8-billion facility that will be capable of processing 800 tons of garbage per day.

The WTE facility will also provide electricity to 40,000 households that can also be sold to electric utility providers. (IRT, PJB)
