Lola Amour spins a new era with Love on Loop

Funk-pop outfit Lola Amour is back with its sophomore album “Love On Loop,” set to drop on Aug. 15, 2025.

But don’t expect a formulaic follow-up to “Raining in Manila.” In a recent GMA News Online interview, trumpet player Angelo Mesina doubled down on what fans have sensed all along that Lola Amour doesn’t follow trends.

“Even way back then, we made songs to cater to what we felt was right for the song,” Mesina shared. “We made the music to encapsulate what the lyricist made, what we felt at that time, it didn’t necessarily dictate what genre it could be.”

That ethos, of serving the story, not the stream count, has been part of the band’s DNA since the beginning. And while “Love On Loop” now features high-profile collaborators like PSYCHIC FEVER’s KOKORO, New Zealand alt-pop artist RIIKI REID and global producers Cuurley and Hyuk Shin, the heart of the process remains deeply personal.

Cebu conversations

That same clarity rang true during a 2024 stop in Cebu, when the band sat down with media to discuss what was then still a lengthy process of new material. The phrase “second album” hadn’t even been uttered yet, but something was clearly brewing.

“It’s really a compilation of inspiration, it’s so diverse you can’t say one thing,” said David Yuhico, the band’s keyboardist. “Each song has its own particular set of inspiration and time period.”

It took five years to complete their self-titled debut, a genre-hopping ride through punk, gospel, rock, ballads and what David loosely called “lots” of alternative. That same restless spirit carries into “Love On Loop,” which means this follow-up is no less intentional, and fans will surely rave about it.

The sophomore album is finally ready for release next month, led by three singles: “Misbehave,” “Dance with My Mistakes” and “The Moment” with KOKORO. S
