A LOW pressure area (LPA) monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025, has a low chance of developing into a typhoon within the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
However, Cebu will begin to experience moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms as the southwest monsoon (habagat) takes effect.
Pagasa Visayas weather specialist Joemer Eclarino told reporters that due to the effects of the southwest monsoon, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain until the weekend.
“Central Visayas is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high chance of rainfall, particularly thunderstorms,” said Eclarino in Cebuano.
“This will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains as the southwest monsoon continues to prevail,” he added.
The southwest monsoon, characterized by warm and moist air, creates favorable conditions for cloud formation and rainfall that is felt all over the country.
While the LPA tracked by Pagasa on Wednesday has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, it may move toward Luzon and into the West Philippine Sea by the weekend.
Eclarino said another LPA is now being monitored outside the PAR, with a lower likelihood of entering the area.
With the LPA and southwest monsoon as the two major weather systems influencing the week, Pagasa urges the public to continue monitoring advisories, including thunderstorm alerts and color-coded rainfall warnings that indicate the different levels of rain intensity. / DPC
