IN A bid to secure a spot in the next round of the 2025 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) season, the Cebu Greats have officially signed Cebuano point guard Mac Tallo.
Tallo, a two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi), confirmed that he has been released by his former team, the Pangasinan Heatwaves.
“Yes, I’ve been released. Let’s just stay positive and trust in ourselves. In order for us to have a chance in the playoffs, we have to win all the remaining games,” said Tallo, who was reportedly traded for Darryl Dominguez.
Under new management, the Cebu Greats have recruited several Cebuano players to revive their playoff hopes.
The team first signed former PBA veterans JR Quiñahan and Paul Desiderio, along with Reeve Ugsang and Jun Manzo.
The franchise also hired former PBA star Junthy Valenzuela as the team’s head coach.
On June 24, they played against the two-time champion Pampanga Giant Lanterns. Despite falling short 69-66, Cebu delivered an inspired performance.
With a 4-13 record, the Cebu Greats still have a chance to make it to the playoffs.
However, they need to win all their remaining ten games, starting this Thursday, July 3, 2025, against the Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle GameX in Biñan, Laguna.
“This July 3 is the start, and we’ll see what we’re capable of as a team. Personally, I’m trying my best to help and contribute to the team because this is not just a team, this is my hometown. It’s my dream to wear a Cebu jersey. As much as possible, I want to stay here in Cebu. I don’t want to transfer anymore,” Tallo added.
Since joining the MPBL, the 31-year-old flashy guard first played for Bacolod, then transferred to Manila. He also played for Abra, Davao, and then Pangasinan.
“Hopefully, this is my last stop,” said Tallo, who is currently in the Manila.
