ROBERT MacIntyre followed his opening-round 62 with a bogey-free six-under 64 on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025 (PH time), highlighted by a birdie at the first hole and steady play throughout the BMW Championship and stormed to a commanding lead.
His two-day total of 14-under 126 gave him a five-shot cushion over world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler carded a 65 but cooled off late, closing with six straight pars to finish at nine-under 131, securing his spot on Sunday’s final pairing. Ludvig Aberg matched MacIntyre’s round with a 64 of his own and sits one shot behind Scheffler.
It marked the largest 36-hole lead at the BMW Championship since Jason Day built the same advantage in 2015 at Conway Farms — a week Day went on to win by six.
“It’s only 36 holes gone. There’s a long way to go,” MacIntyre said. “I’m comfortable with who I am. I’m comfortable with the team around me, and I’m comfortable on this golf course. Just go and play golf.”
So far, he has done just that. Caves Valley’s renovated layout — lengthened with new greens — has yet to slow him down. He has gained 6.8 shots on the field with his putter, leading the field in that key statistic. His only blemishes: a missed five-footer at the 18th and another short birdie look on the eighth. / RSC
