A 57-year-old man sustained a severe head injury after being attacked with a bladed weapon while sleeping in Sitio Huyong-Huyong, Barangay Mambaling, around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

The victim, identified as Isias Cardosa, a resident of the area, suffered a fractured forehead and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Cebu City Medical Center.

Police have apprehended the suspect, Dino Mangco Matanog, 51, an e-bike driver and also a resident of Sitio Huyong-Huyong. He is now detained at the Mambaling Police Station.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect, who was allegedly drunk, entered the victim’s residence. Cardosa, who was asleep, was reportedly struck directly on the forehead with the weapon, waking him due to the resulting pain.

Responding to the incident, neighborhood watchmen (tanod) and residents of the area helped one another in order to apprehend Matanog.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, with initial reports suggesting that the suspect may have randomly targeted the victim due to his state of intoxication. / GPL
