A MAN was detained at the Guadalupe Police Station after handcuffing the hands and feet of his female friend out of extreme jealousy around 9 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Police Major Miles Damoslog, chief of the Guadalupe Police Station, said the suspect and the victim are friends and both residents of Barangay Guadalupe.
Damoslog did not disclose the suspect’s identity but said that he is approximately 30 years old, while the victim is 23 years old.
Reports indicate that the two were playing board games at a bar on Escario Street, Barangay Kamputhaw. After their game, one of their friends asked for a ride home to a condominium in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe.
After dropping off their friend, the suspect suddenly handcuffed the victim’s hands and feet.
The suspect then drove around Cebu City with the victim restrained inside the vehicle, eventually reaching Mandaue City.
They reportedly stopped at a convenience store, where the suspect went inside to buy water. At that moment, the victim managed to call her older sister for help.
Upon receiving the call, the victim’s sister tracked her location using GPS and traced her whereabouts.
She immediately sought assistance from the Subangdaku Police Station of the Mandaue City Police Office, and officers followed the GPS tracking until the suspect’s vehicle returned to Cebu City.
The police pursued the vehicle and intercepted it on Cardinal Rosales Avenue, Barangay Mabolo, where the suspect was finally apprehended.
"According sa biktima, parang medyo nag selos daw yung suspect kaso magkakaibigan man sila, kasi itong biktima, mas close pa duon sa isang kaibigan nya. Parang nag tantrum yung suspect, bakit daw na mas close pa yung biktima sa isang kaibigan nila na nauna naman sila na nagkakilala daw," said Damoslog.
(The victim said the suspect seemed jealous, even though they were just friends. It appears that the suspect had a tantrum because the victim was closer to another friend, despite the suspect having known the victim longer.)
Damoslog clarified that there was no romantic relationship between the suspect and the victim, based on their statements.
The Guadalupe Police Station is preparing a case of illegal detention against the suspect, who has declined to give any statement to the media. (AYB)
