MAYA Innovations Holdings emerged as a bright spot in PLDT Inc.’s first-half 2025 performance, contributing P406 million in equity share to the telco’s core income — a P1.1 billion reversal from last year’s losses — helping offset weakness in other business lines.

The fintech arm posted a net income of P582 million in the second quarter, up 60 percent from the first quarter, driven by surging deposits, loan disbursements, and disciplined cost control. Maya’s bank customer base doubled year-on-year to 8.2 million, with deposits reaching P50.4 billion (+54 percent) and second quarter loan releases hitting P32 billion (+147 percent).

The strong rebound supported PLDT’s overall core income, which rose slightly to P17.6 billion in the first half despite a four percent dip in telco core income to P17.2 billion. Gross service revenues grew three percent to P106.3 billion, while data and broadband accounted for 85 percent of consolidated service revenues at P82.2 billion.

PLDT chairman and chief executive officer Manuel V. Pangilinan said the results reflect the company’s resilience amid cost pressures and its continued investments in network expansion, customer experience, and innovation.

The telco also reported a three percent increase in consolidated Ebitda to P55.5 billion, maintaining a 52 percent margin. Net debt-to-Ebitda stood at 2.57x, with investment-grade credit ratings from Moody’s and S&P Global intact.

Operationally, PLDT Home drove growth with a seven percent rise in fiber-only revenues to P29.5 billion, while Smart maintained its 59 million mobile subscriber base and posted 84 percent growth in 5G traffic. Enterprise revenues hit P23.5 billion, supported by demand for AI-ready data centers, IoT solutions, and global connectivity services.

PLDT trimmed its full-year capex guidance to P63 billion from up to P73 billion due to better supplier terms after spending P27.4 billion in the first half. / KOC
