Motorcycle rider dead in Transcentral Highway crash

A MOTORCYCLE rider died after figuring in an accident along a curved portion of the Transcentral Highway in Barangay Cansomoroy, Balamban town, Cebu Province at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025.

The victim was identified by his friends as Giolo Laurente, 35, a resident of Ormoc City, Leyte.

Based on the investigation by the Balamban Police Station, the victim had come from the town proper of Balamban riding his black motorcycle. He was traversing the TCH heading toward Cebu City when he lost control of the handlebars at the curved section of the road.

Due to the speed of his travel, he was thrown off and slammed into a concrete road barrier on the roadside, resulting in severe injuries to various parts of his body.

He was immediately rushed to the Balamban Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

A video of the incident was uploaded on social media, drawing numerous comments. The video showed Laurente following two other motorcycles believed to be his companions, all traveling at high speed.

Upon reaching the curved section, all three turned at high speed, but Laurente, who was trailing behind, suddenly crashed.

The Highway Patrol Group 7 had earlier warned motorists to be cautious when driving along the TCH, citing the high number of fatalities due to failure to observe proper safety measures. (AYB)
