IN ANTICIPATION of increased travel during peak periods such as Holy Week, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) has launched a comprehensive road safety initiative aimed at ensuring a smooth and stress-free journey for all motorists.

In a press statement, the MPTC announced the rollout of its Biyaheng Arangkada Semana Santa motorist assistance program, which will run from Wednesday, April 16, to Monday, 21, 2025.

With traffic volume expected to increase by approximately 10 percent during the holiday period, the MPTC reaffirmed its commitment to deliver a comfortable and efficient travel experience, especially for motorists who may face emergencies on the road.

MPTC president and chief executive officer Jose Ma. Lim said the program highlights the company’s dedication to anticipate the needs of motorists and ensure that families can travel with ease and confidence.

“Biyaheng Arangkada Semana Santa reflects our commitment to service that anticipates the needs of our motorists and helps families reconnect and travel with peace of mind,” said Lim.

Services

The program offers support services across MPTC’s expressway network, including the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), one of its major concessions in Cebu.

Specific services for CCLEX include enhanced traffic management and free towing to the nearest exit for Class 1 and Class 1M vehicles, offering immediate assistance in the event of a breakdown.

Additionally, on-call assistance services for roadside emergencies, including a dedicated hotline (1-35000) and the MPT DriveHub app, are available around the clock.

Free on-call emergency medical services will also be made available for motorists as well-equipped medical teams will be on standby to provide immediate assistance in case of medical emergencies along the expressways.

The MPTC advises travelers to ensure their vehicle’s “roadworthiness” by conducting a thorough pre-trip inspection, checking tires, fluids, lights and brakes to prevent breakdowns.

The toll road developer added that motorists should stay alert, take regular breaks, get sufficient rest, adhere to speed limits and maintain proper lane discipline.

The MPTC also urges motorists to embrace Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) for faster, cashless toll transactions by ensuring timely reloading and carrying a backup RFID card for seamless travel. / DPC
