Seventy-five years of a life well-lived call for a celebration, more so when 51 years have been spent in the service of the Holy Mother Church, as in the case of Msgr. Roberto “Boy” Alesna. Supportive friends and coworkers in the “Lord’s vineyard” shared in his joy when he celebrated his diamond birthday at Radisson Blu’s Santa Maria Ballroom.

A diamond jubilee ushers in the retirement years but Monsignor Boy is determined to remain productive and continue working for the archdiocese. For him, to retire is just to change course and not fade away. Archbishop Jose Palma shared that the good monsignor is still needed for his experience and expertise.

In her tribute, dear friend Marylou Ngo Ang gave an endearing picture of Monsignor Boy (a basketball fan like her husband, Eric) whose parish beautification projects she has wholeheartedly supported because he says that churches reflect the glory of God so they must be beautified. On the other hand, another staunch supporter, Noel Alicaya spoke of his mentor’s quiet leadership guided by compassion.

It was a pleasant gathering of people who have known Msgr. Boy Alesna for quite some time: his core group, followers who have received guidance from him, contributors to his church projects, helpers in his workplace, prayer warriors and admirers of his dedication to church service.
