Memories and recollections were very much part of Seda Central Bloc’s celebration of its fifth anniversary. Dubbed “Sidlak: 5 Years of Brilliance and Beyond,” the Black Tie affair underscored the hotel’s journey from its challenging beginnings to what it has become today — a shining light in the hospitality industry. Yes, the party theme was apt because Sidlak means “to shine” or “to radiate in brightness.”
A month after the hotel had its soft opening in 2020, Covid came into picture and changed everything. It was a bitter pill to swallow for general manager Ron Manalang and his opening team because of the lockdown. Grit and determination, sacrifice and hard work marked the team’s initiation into the world of Seda Central Bloc, pandemic era.
Stories of those uncertain times were shared by director of sales & marketing Thrina Dela Calzada, assistant director of human resources Daryl Maye Getubig and the kitchen’s Kim Macapobre who were there since Day 1. Bittersweet memories for them, but they found their experiences during that difficult time enriching for the lessons learned like resilience, adaptability, innovation and more. Also sharing recollections were Ella Mayores of the front office and sales executives Julie Rule and Dianna McCarthy.
The “Sidlak” affair unfolded at the Sinamay Ballroom where GM Manalang warmly welcomed the guests and introduced Ayalaland Hospitality chief operating officer Gustavo Morales and head of commercial Sonny Ang. At the presidential table with them were Seda Ayala Center GM/cluster GM Gwen Dela Cruz and director of HR Bobot Codoy.
A merry waltz number performed by the hotel’s opening team and department heads ushered in the evening’s festivities. Then there was a video message from George Aquino, president/chief executive officer of Ayalaland Hospitality. One of the highlights of the event was the recognition given to the 12 members of the opening team.
The sit-down dinner was exceptionally good, expertly curated and exquisitely presented along with a selection of excellent wine. A string ensemble rendered beautiful soothing music making the evening even more magical. Dance time, fun time had everyone in the Seda family on the dance floor! What a joyous fifth anniversary celebration! Cheers to Seda Central Bloc!
