NEWLY appointed Central Visayas police director, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, paid a courtesy call to Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Maranan was accompanied by Cebu City Police Office chief, Police Colonel Enrico Figueroa. He praised the mayor for his unwavering support for the police force.

According to Maranan, with the strong backing from the mayor, there is no reason for the police not to work diligently in maintaining peace and order in Cebu City.

"We're happy that our mayor is very supportive to his police force, the Cebu City Police Office and, of course, being the recipient of the full support of the mayor, the city director should ensure that the peace and order here in Cebu City should be very very good. There is no reason na hindi magiging maganda ang peace and order dito sa Cebu City in particular because of the full support of our mayor," he said.

He added that Cebu City is not new to him, having been assigned here in the 1990s as head of the Vice Control Section, Theft and Robbery Section, and the Narcotics Command.

While the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) is conducting an overall review of its personnel, Maranan has tasked Figueroa with evaluating CCPO officers, particularly those who have served for over a year in their current posts.

Maranan said that personnel changes will be performance-based, with those who neglect their duties being replaced to ensure efficiency.

"In Cebu City, it depends on the city director, but my instruction to him is to ensure that our unit commanders or ground commanders are doing their job properly. It will be performance-based and merit-based -- nothing more, nothing less. If you are performing well, you stay; if you are neglecting your duties and peace and order in your area suffers, then we have to replace you with someone who will do the job. We owe it to the people of Cebu City, especially with the support of our mayor, to perform our duties excellently," Maranan said in a mix of English and Filipino.

Before his assignment to PRO 7, Maranan served as the head of Police Regional Office in Central Luzon, chief of the Quezon City Police District, and spokesperson of the Philippine National Police at Camp Crame. (AYB)
