MERALCO Bolts star Chris Newsome was named PBA Press Corps–Pilipinas Live Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, after once again leading his team to a strong finish in the elimination round of the Philippine Cup.
Newsome turned in a solid all-around effort in Meralco’s 82-73 win over Barangay Ginebra last Friday, May 30, 2025, tallying 16 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. His consistent production and leadership on both ends of the floor helped the Bolts close out the elims with three straight wins and a 6-5 (win-loss) record.
The back-to-back recognition puts Newsome in elite company. He becomes the first player to win the weekly honor twice in a row since TNT veteran Jayson Castro pulled off the same feat during the 2022 Philippine Cup semifinals.
Newsome’s recent form couldn’t come at a better time. Meralco, after stumbling to a 3-5 start in its title defense, found its footing late — and Newsome has been at the center of that turnaround. / RSC
