THERE will be no Pasigarbo sa Sugbo this year.
This was announced on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, by Provincial Administrator Atty. Joseph Felix Mari "Ace" Durano.
“The only thing that changed is there will be no Pasigarbo this year,” said Durano.
Earlier, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro revealed her plan to reallocate the budget toward health services, which is a priority of her administration.
However, Durano clarified that since the funding for Pasigarbo sa Sugbo—a tourism-related program—was already approved for this year, it can’t legally be used for programs unrelated to tourism.
Durano explained that instead, the funds will be redistributed among four key initiatives.
“We now have guidelines on how to use the Pasigarbo funds,” he said.
These include cultural activities, improvements to tourism facilities, training for tourism frontliners, and promoting Cebu as a destination for both domestic and international investment.
Governor Baricuatro is set to present these revised plans to the Provincial Tourism Council, which includes members of the business sector, on July 30, 2025.
For context, Pasigarbo sa Sugbo had a P200-million budget under the previous administration and was typically one of the major events celebrating Cebu’s founding anniversary. (ANV)
