A TOTAL of 25 Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) scholars from Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City, graduated from the electrical installation program.

Mayor-elect Cynthia King-Chan during the ceremony held on Friday, June 20, 2025, commended the graduates of the Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II program, calling them a clear testament to the city’s continued efforts to uplift its constituents through skills development. The residents trained for 25 days.

“We will support you until you’re able to stand on your own and provide not only for yourselves; but, more importantly, for your families,” said Chan in Cebuano.

She added the significance of determination and resilience in gaining work experience as key steps toward long-term success and career advancement.

The batch of graduates trained at Saint James Academy of Skills Technology, Inc. are from the island barangays of Talima, Tingo, Baring, Sabang, Tungasan, Sta. Rosa and San Vicente.

In addition to hands-on training, each graduate received an NC II Certificate and an allowance of P4,000, to help them meet initial employment requirements.

Job opportunities

Public Employment Service Office head Kim Francisco said the graduates will be endorsed to major companies at the Mactan Export Processing Zone and other firms across Lapu-Lapu City.

He pointed out that these will be companies that require electricians with NC II certification.

“Job opportunities for them are electricians from various industries like manufacturing and construction,” said Francisco. / DPC
