Tell it to SunStar: It’s not yet over

I THINK most people will have to instill in their minds that we are still in the middle of a health crisis.

But judging by the scenes on the streets all over the metro and in other parts of the province, they must think that we’ve beaten the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) even though a vaccine has not been discovered.

Yes, there is an ongoing “vaccine race” but until one is actually out on the market and available for distribution to the general public, Cebuanos and the rest of the Filipinos in the archipelago should continue to comply with minimum health standards to prevent the pandemic from spreading.

The current modified general community quarantine status that the whole Province and the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu are in is a far cry from the draconian measures imposed when the whole island was put under enhanced community quarantine at the end of March. But that’s just it, we are still on community quarantine.

I hope the government did not make a mistake when it decided to lift more restrictions at the beginning of the month. I know it was thinking about the economy as a whole.

With that said, I hope the public will realize that the government cannot tackle this problem alone without their cooperation and help.
