AS I pondered on the global problem brought about by the coronavirus disease or Covid-19 pandemic, I cannot help but recall some passage in the Holy Scriptures specifically in II Chronicles Chapter 7: 13-14, which states thus: “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land.”
Sad to note the people of this world do not heed the warning of the Almighty. Mankind continued in its wicked ways. Everyday, we read in the newspapers or from TV and radio broadcasts crimes like murder, corruption, immoralities, etc. You name it, we have it. And some national leaders like the President of the United States boasted, saying, “We have the best health care system in the world, and the best doctors.”
The coronavirus made shambles of the “best health care system” and the USA ranks first as far as the number of infected persons which is now in the millions.
Not to be outdone, the Russians announced they already have the vaccine, which they boasted is as potent as their weapons. The Russians are now in the top five in number of infections behind USA, Brazil and India.
Singapore, which also bragged that its health facilities and equipment are ready, ranks first in the number of infected persons in its population in Southeast Asia, percentage wise. To add insult to injury, Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil, called the Covid-19 pandemic “Little Flu” and President Trump likewise called it the same as “Kung Flu.” Such silly and derisive remarks taunted the Creator and courted the Almighty’s anger.
The Brazilian president himself caught the virus and Trump’s popularity rating toboggans and is now very much behind Biden in their presidential race.
The pandemic has a solution as what God has said in the Holy Book. It is by humbling ourselves and turning away from our wicked ways and praying for forgiveness.
Though health protocols like the wearing of masks, washing of hands and social distancing are musts to stop the spread of the virus, the best protection and weapon against Covid-19 pandemic therefore is prayer, turning over a new leaf and asking God’s forgiveness on bended knees. Then and only then will the Lord hear from heaven and heal our land.
