HAS the Cebu City Government noticed the rising number of people who are calling the sidewalks their home?
Usually they come out right around the end of August toward the beginning of September, which ushers in the “Ber” months.
As we all know, this period marks the beginning of the world’s longest celebration of the Christmas season.
But they’re there now. In fact, they’ve been there since May.
It kind of defeats the purpose of telling residents to stay at home while the city remains under community quarantine to prevent or contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 while turning a blind eye to the plight of these people who seem to be oblivious and apparently immune to the pandemic.
Most, if not all, of them don’t wear masks. And I don’t think it’s because they want to openly defy a government directive. They probably have better things to do with their money if they have any than, say, buy a mask.
I don’t know where they come from. I’m not even sure if they’re the same people who show up every September. But they can’t stay on the streets.
