POLICE in Central Visayas have arrested the leader of the group behind the robbery of Oro Sugbo Pawnshop, which happened on November 25, 2023, along Colon Street in Cebu City.
The arrest was made based on a warrant issued by the court.
The arrested suspect, now detained at Cebu City Jail, was identified as Jake Camotes, a resident of Carcar City in Cebu province.
According to Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, chief of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, Camotes is the leader of a robbery-holdup group responsible for the Oro Sugbo heist, in which an estimated P14 million worth of jewelry was stolen.
In addition to Camotes, three other members of the group have already been arrested and are also now detained under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
Camotes had five standing arrest warrants, and when he was seen last week, police served them at his residence in Carcar City.
Camotes was identified as the leader of the Oro Sugbo robbery after the arrest of his accomplices.
Following the incident, he reportedly moved between Carcar City and a mountainous area in the town of Sibonga. His presence was recently detected again in Carcar, leading to his arrest.
During the operation, police recovered a .45 caliber pistol and a grenade from Camotes.
Three more members of Camotes’ group remain at large as of this time. (AYB)
