AUTHORITIES in Mandaue City confiscated an estimated P8.6 million worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust early Friday morning, April 25, 2025.

The operation was carried out by the City Intelligence Unit and City Drug Enforcement Unit of the Mandaue City Police Office along Arcolina Street in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia.

The suspect, identified only by the alias "Jem-Jem," a 41-year-old high-value target from Sitio Paglaum, Barangay Bulacao in Cebu City, was arrested during the sting.

Police recovered 1.2 kilos of substance believed to be shabu, packed in 10 large sachets, along with a cellphone believed to have been used for drug transactions. Authorities also seized P49,000 in boodle money and a marked P1,000 bill used in the operation.

All seized items were turned over to the Regional Forensic Unit 7 for chemical analysis and safekeeping. The suspect is currently in police custody and faces charges for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“The Mandaue City Police Office remains steadfast in its resolve to dismantle drug networks and bring offenders to justice. This operation sends a clear message that we will not allow illegal drugs to destroy our communities,” said Mandaue City Police Chief Colonel Cirilo Acosta Jr.

Police are now investigating the source of the drugs and identifying the suspect’s possible network for follow-up operations. (AYB)
