PROVING that experience still counts, 2023 “Bowler of the Year” Vivian Padawan delivered a commanding performance to win the Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SUGBU) weekly shootout tournament last Sunday, May 18, 2025, at SM Seaside Bowling and Leisure Center.
A cornerstone of the SUGBU lineup, Padawan remains a force to be reckoned with in local bowling.
Padawan again exemplified her characteristic consistency and calmness in the finals, scoring 157 pinfalls from scratch and adding 33 handicap points for a total of 190.
The strong finish was enough to outpace runner-up Luis Cajes, who ended with 165 pinfalls, and third-placer Arthur Tapaya, who posted 151.
Earlier in the qualifying round, Padawan led the combined Division B and C bracket with 827 pinfalls across four games, including a standout 211-pin effort in Game 2.
Robert Sarvida secured the second spot in the combined Division B and C qualifying round with a total of 755 pinfalls, narrowly edging out Luis Cajes, who finished with 747.
In Division A, Tapaya topped all qualifiers with a whopping 854 pinfalls, followed by SUGBU president Edgar Alqueza with 797 and Rey Velarde with a respectable 771.
