CEBU and the rest of Central Visayas will have generally fair weather this week as the country transitions to the wet season, which is anticipated to start in the second half of June.

Weather specialist Jomer Eclarino said Sunday, May 25, 2025, that although Cebu will temporarily return to hot and humid conditions for this week, the presence of isolated rain showers and localized thunderstorms will continue due to the lingering effects of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

“We are still in a transition period, heading towards the rainy season. For now, we can expect hot and humid weather, but occasional thunderstorms can still occur,” said Eclarino of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas.

The ITCZ, which brings converging winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, is responsible for recent sudden rains and will continue to affect weather patterns across the Visayas and Mindanao.

In Cebu, the heat index has slightly decreased to 38 to 39 degrees Celsius — down from the previous week’s 40 degrees Celsius — but still falls under the “extreme caution” category.

Actual air temperature ranges from 27 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Eclarino reminded the public to monitor official advisories as localized thunderstorms may bring sudden, heavy rainfall that could trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying or mountainous areas.

“Continue to take precautions against both the heat and potential severe thunderstorms. Stay hydrated and bring protection from the sun,” he said in Cebuano. / CDF
