Dear friend and fellow entrepreneur,

Over the years, SunStar Cebu has published my articles under the column “Build a Business.”

Through these writings, I’ve shared insights, experiences and lessons from my journey as an entrepreneur, hoping that they would resonate and inspire you to achieve your goals.

As we move forward, I feel the coming new year is the perfect time to pause, reflect and summarize the 20 key lessons I’ve shared so far. These principles have guided me in both business and life. And I hope they serve as a compass for your life and entrepreneurial journey.

Here are the first 10 lessons:

1. Confront the Brutal Facts.

Success starts with honesty. Acknowledge challenges and limitations to find effective solutions. Facing reality head-on is the first step to growth.

2. Close “Open Loops.”

“Open loops” are unfinished commitments that drain energy. Close them to clear mental space, reduce stress, and boost productivity.

3. Manage Momentum.

Progress is powerful but fleeting. Keep pushing the flywheel and focus on maintaining momentum to achieve long-term success.

4. Trust is Everything.

Trust forms the foundation of relationships. When people trust you, opportunities multiply, and success follows naturally.

5. Play to Win.

A winning attitude drives growth. Avoid playing it safe or merely avoiding failure - play to win and never play not to lose.

6. Self-Discipline is Key.

Success isn’t about sporadic bursts of effort; it’s about consistent, disciplined action over the long haul, especially when times are tough.

7. Maximize Luck.

Luck is real, but preparation turns it into success. Be a lifelong learner so you’re ready to seize opportunities when they appear.

8. Deposit Goodwill.

Every interaction is a chance to build goodwill. Treat people with kindness and respect to create a network of lasting support.

9. Take Personal Responsibility.

True leadership comes from owning your actions, successes, and failures. This builds integrity, trust, and credibility with every person you interact with.

10. Accept What You Can’t Control.

Focus on what you can change and let go of the rest. Always ask yourself: Is this a problem to solve or a condition to accept?

These lessons have been pivotal in my journey, and I hope they resonate with you. In my letter next week, I’ll share 10 more principles that have shaped my path.

Here’s to your continued success!

Sincerely,

Bunny
