At an age when most have retired, he’s just been re-elected.

Atty. Augusto W. Go was recently named president of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) — the biggest high school and collegiate league outside of Metro Manila and a cradle of future stars.

“Cebu is not just in good hands,” said outgoing Cesafi president Atty. Paulino Yabao of USPF, “but in the best hands.”

Gus Go, ever the gentleman, smiled and shared a story.

“I know many of my friends were surprised when I became Cesafi president,” he said. “Even my wife — when she saw my photo in The Freeman — told me, ‘Didn’t you say you’d never accept any more positions?’”

His answer was simple: “I want to help.”

At 90 years young, Attorney Go is proving what Cebu has always known: there’s no slowing down a man driven by purpose.

He is the founder and president of the University of Cebu (UC). A lawyer. An educator. A businessman. A loving husband to Mrs. Elizabeth Gan-Go. And the proud father of Candice, who now helps steer UC, UCMed, and their many ventures. But beyond running a university with over 70,000 students, he is a true sportsman — not with a racket or a basketball, but with a vision, a heart for the youth, and boundless energy (he still reports to the UC main campus almost daily).

Attorney Go paid tribute to Felix “Boy” Tiukinhoy, Cesafi’s longtime commissioner who shaped the league from its infancy into what it is today. As Cesafi marks its 25th season, Go now leads the way — alongside Vice President Fr. Francisco Antonio Estepa (USC), Treasurer Dr. Dino Diez (Velez College) and Secretary Fr. Randy Figuracion, SDB (DBTC).

Go’s first order of business: revive the Cebu Coliseum. The home of Cebu sports for many decades, the historic venue is being restored under his ownership. A brand-new Fiba-grade wooden court. Upgraded seating. A fully replaced roof to better insulate the arena and keep the heat out. And full air-conditioning — finally. Most impressive? The rental fee per game day drops from P50,000 to just P8,000. Attorney Go’s gift to Cebu sports.

On Sept. 13, the Cesafi 2025–26 season will open at the NEW Cebu Coliseum.

“We’re expecting a cooler season,” he said. “Let the games begin.”

But that’s not all.

Soon, another Go-led project will rise: the P300-million Magnum Sports Complex near the Cebu I.T. Park. A world-class, multi-sport facility that will feature volleyball and badminton courts, a training gym, a Fiba-grade basketball court, martial arts and table tennis studios, plus a sports science and rehab center.

Magnum is more than just a building. It’s a symbol.

It stands for vision, movement and legacy. And behind it is a 90-year-old who refuses to slow down. While others rest, he builds. While many reflect on the past, he invests in the future.

He’s not just living long — he’s living full.

Attorney Go is showing us all how to live life with meaning and momentum — through sports.

Go, go, going strong.
