POLICE in Danao City conducted separate raids on two suspected illegal gun manufacturing sites on Friday, May 16, 2025, and Saturday, May 17, resulting in one arrest and the seizure of firearms and manufacturing equipment.
The first operation on Friday in Purok 5, Barangay Masaba, led to the apprehension of a 46-year-old construction worker.
Authorities recovered several unfinished pistols and pistol barrels, along with ammunition, magazines and various gun-making tools, including a lathe machine, grinder and welding machine.
A gun made illegally is locally known as a paltik.
The suspect was detained at the Danao City Police Station.
A follow-up operation on Saturday in Sitio Patag, Barangay Manlayag, targeted another suspected gun maker.
However, the suspect had already fled the residence upon the arrival of the police.
An unfinished rifle, a .22 revolver, ammunition, magazines and gun-making implements were recovered from the location. A manhunt operation was implemented for the escaped individual.
Capt. Dun Blane Tabares of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) said the operations were initiated following a report of illegal gun manufacturing in two shanties, prompting surveillance of the locations.
He said the arrested suspect and the one at large are believed to have inherited the illegal activity from their relatives.
CPPO Director Col. Jovito Atanacio, for his part, said the operations reflect the police’s commitment to eradicating illegal firearms and ensuring community safety.
The suspects have been charged for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. / AYB
