CEBU Gov. Pamela Baricuatro pledged to prioritize sustainable and inclusive development during the opening of the Asean-EU Sustainability Summit 2026 on Thursday, May 7.
Baricuatro said the Provincial Government will strengthen climate-resilient infrastructure, improve water and flood management systems, pursue sustainable energy solutions, and advance responsible waste management initiatives.
She also pushed for investments in food security, healthcare, transparency and digital governance to empower local communities.
Speaking before delegates from the Asean-EU Business Council, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines and regional business leaders, Baricuatro said Cebu is positioning itself as a future-ready province anchored on sustainability, resilience and inclusive growth.
“As Governor, one of my priorities is to ensure that development in Cebu is not only fast, but meaningful and long-term,” Baricuatro said.
She emphasized that sustainability goes beyond environmental protection.
“It is also about building communities that are prepared, empowered, and trusted by the people they serve,” she said.
Baricuatro stressed the need for collaboration among governments, businesses, innovators and development partners to build strong and responsible economies.
“This is why partnerships matter,” she said, adding that platforms such as the summit help foster meaningful discussions and practical solutions for the region.
“May this Summit lead to meaningful discussions, stronger collaborations, and real solutions that will benefit not only Cebu, but the entire region,” she said.
