A PAYLOADER crashed into a house after it sped down a sloped road when it reportedly lost its brakes around 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Sitio Roosevelt, Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

The driver of the heavy equipment was identified as 45-year-old Tony Lumacad.

Lumacad revealed that the payloader he was operating lost its brakes, causing it to plow into the house and damage its roof.

It was learned that the area is located on a steep slope, and the road was slippery at the time due to recent rainfall.

Initial investigation showed that the payloader came from the Temple of Leah and was supposed to haul soil from a lower area for an ongoing construction project inside the tourist spot.

However, the plan was interrupted when the payloader lost control and crashed into the house, landing on the roof.

The damaged part of the roof was above the bedroom of the house owner’s 12-year-old child, who was asleep at the time.

According to the house owner, she was startled by a loud crash and a strong jolt that she initially thought was an earthquake.

She immediately checked her child’s room and saw debris scattered across the area due to the strong impact of the crash.

Fortunately, both her child and the payloader driver were unharmed, with no injuries reported, as the driver was able to exit the vehicle quickly.

The family is awaiting an official assessment of the total damage to their home, while Temple of Leah management has promised to shoulder the repair costs. (JDG)
