DAVE Peñalosa returns to the spotlight as he slugs it out with Chinese newcomer Jiang Weiyi for the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Silver lightweight title in the main event of Chao Sy Boxing Promotions’ “Fist of Fury VII: Philippines vs. China” Saturday night, June 28, 2025, at the Tinago Gym in Cebu City.

At 34 years old, Peñalosa wants to make up for lost time after a two-year hiatus. He re-entered the ring earlier this year, notching back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Vicente Casido.

The son of two-division world champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa, Dave won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental featherweight title in 2019 via a fourth-round technical knockout of Mexican contender Marcos Cardenas.

After that win, however, Peñalosa suffered his only career defeat, losing to Lerato Dlamini by unanimous decision in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight bout.

On the other hand, Jiang is relativley new to the pro ranks. He made his debut in 2023 with a fourth-round technical knockout of Manot Comput. He won his next bout by split decision over Ok Kyu Choi before losing to Nukul Nimmak by unanimous decision.

At the pre-fight weigh-in on Friday, Peñalosa came in at 131 pounds -- well under the lightweight limit, while Jiang tipped the scales at
134.4 pounds.

Peñalosa enters the ring with a 19-1 record, including 12 knockouts. Jiang holds a 2-1 slate with one knockout.

In the co-main event, Vicente Unidos (4-0, 3 KOs) faces Touhatasen Sailibieke (5-0, 3 KOs) of China in a battle of unbeaten pugs.

Meanwhile, the undercard features Jefre Jimenez (4-0, 2 KOs) fighting Marlon Alejandro (6-7-2, 1 KO) for the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light-flyweight belt and Jemuel Aranas (6-2, 3 KOs) taking on Anthony Gilbuela (8-7-3, 2 KOs) in another exciting matchup.

Amateur bouts will also be showcased prior to the professional fights, adding more action to an already stacked night of boxing. / EKA
