THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has identified a person of interest in the shooting of a woman along J. Luna Corner Samar Loop, Barangay Luz, Cebu City, around 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2025.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Frince Ordeniza, a resident of Sitio Calinao, Barangay Luz, Cebu City, but originally from Barangay Bahay, Sibonga, Cebu.
She was the store head of Open Source in a major mall located at the South Road Properties.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations at CCPO, said their investigation is now expanding to trace the suspect’s route before and after the crime.
They are also looking into where the victim lived and worked, as they discovered she was not originally from the city.
According to a witness, the suspect was beside them while waiting for the traffic light to change. As the light turned green, the suspect declared a robbery and fired three shots at the victim. However, the suspect fled without taking the victim’s belongings, including her bag which contained her phone and wallet.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a red sweatshirt and riding a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle, based on CCTV footage and witness accounts. Authorities observed that the suspect appeared to be skilled in handling a firearm, also seen in the CCTV footage.
Macatangay said they are now deepening the investigation, as robbery may not have been the true motive.
"Na observe nato right before our eyes, which is from the onset nakaingon tag robbery no, but we are tracking some angles nga naa say possibility nga maoy rason nga mao toy nahitabo," said Macatangay.
(We observed from the onset that it seemed like a robbery, but we are tracking some angles that suggest there could be another reason behind what happened.)
The victim’s family has pledged full cooperation with the police investigation.
The victim was reportedly staying in a boarding house in Barangay Luz and regularly booked a ride to get to work. She was on her way to her workplace when she was shot at Samar Loop.
The police will subject the victim’s cellphone to forensic examination to check if she had received any threats before the shooting. (AYB)
