A THRILLING mix of elite competition, historic distance and hefty prizes awaits as the Baguio-Tagaytay PhilCycling Classic kicks off on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The race begins at Camp John Hay in Baguio City and spans 292 kilometers, culminating at Crisanto de los Reyes Ave. -- right in front of the newly inaugurated Tagaytay City Velodrome.

Marking a major milestone in Philippine cycling, this landmark event is the longest road race ever held in the country. It features the top 30 finishers from last month’s “Tour of Luzon: The Great Revival,” setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown of endurance, speed and strategy.

A total prize pool of P870,000 is at stake. The overall champion will earn P100,000, with the second and third placers taking home P75,000 and P70,000, respectively. Even the last finisher is guaranteed a P5,000 consolation prize.

Adding excitement to the race, 10 intermediate sprints along the expressways will each award P10,000 to the first cyclist across — offering up to P100,000 in bonus prizes.

“It’s a race of speed, endurance and everything an elite cyclist has in his arsenal,” said Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, who is also the president of the Philippine Olympic Committee and PhilCycling.

The PhilCycling Classic is part of a grand celebration coinciding with Olympic Day, World Bicycle Day, the Tagaytay Velodrome’s inauguration and Tagaytay City’s 87th Charter Day on Saturday, June 21, making it not just a race, but a national sporting celebration.

Adding to the significance of the day, PhilCycling will also host the contract signing of Filipino athletes under the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship Program, a strategic initiative aimed at preparing local talent for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. / RP2 SPORTS
