POLICE Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) chief, Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, commended the seizure of 25 kilos of shabu worth P170 million, which was attempted to be smuggled through the Cebu City port from Manila via Masbate on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The contraband was intercepted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 Seaport Interdiction Unit, Naval Forces Central, Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, PNP Drug Enforcement Group, PNP Maritime Group, Philippine Coast Guard, Cebu Port Authority, Bureau of Customs, and Cebu City Police Office.
The drugs were found inside a vehicle loaded onto a ship from Masbate.
During a random inspection conducted by PDEA 7, the driver of a sedan raised suspicions, prompting a thorough check using their K9 Unit, Bayani.
A large carton was found in the car’s trunk, and upon inspection, authorities discovered several large packages believed to contain shabu. The contraband was confirmed after the detection dog sat and signaled the presence of illegal drugs.
Maranan said the successful seizure of illegal drugs was the result of their relentless campaign against illegal substances and the capture of high-profile drug players.
He also highlighted the strong collaboration and teamwork between the police, PDEA, and other law enforcement agencies in Central Visayas.
“This successful seizure highlights our commitment to eradicating illegal drugs and protecting our communities. Through effective collaboration with our partner agencies, we have prevented dangerous substances from harming lives. We will continue our strategic efforts to maintain a drug-free Central Visayas,” said Redrico Maranan.
He added that the police will continue their dedication to an intensified campaign against crime to maintain peace and order throughout the region. (AYB)
