THE Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) has emerged as the top performer in the entire Philippines in enforcing the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Since the election period began on January 12, 2025, PRO 7 has confiscated a total of 877 unregistered firearms.

According to the latest data, PRO 7 seized 811 firearms during police operations, which included buy-busts, while 53 were recovered through search warrants, seven during the serving of arrest warrants for individuals with pending cases, and six at various checkpoints.

Central Visayas leads the 17 police regional offices, surpassing the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), which seized 675 firearms, and Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO 3), which confiscated 503 firearms.

Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the regional police chief of Central Visayas, praised his personnel for their relentless efforts in ensuring peace and security ahead of the May 12, 2025 elections.

"This is a result of our intensified security operations and our commitment to preventing election-related violence. Every firearm we recover is one less tool for crime and intimidation. We will continue working around the clock to ensure that the people of Central Visayas can vote freely and safely," said Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan.

He added that as the election draws closer, PRO 7 will further strengthen its campaign against loose firearms to recover them from the hands of criminals who may use them to threaten or harass voters. (AYB)
