POLICE in Central Visayas are now on full alert to ensure tight security during President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, July 28, 2025.

According to Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7), the entire force is 100 percent prepared to carry out security operations across Region 7.

One of their main preparations is for the planned protest actions by progressive groups seeking to air their grievances to the government.

Maranan assured the public that police will exercise maximum tolerance and respect human rights during such events.

“We will observe maximum tolerance and uphold human rights at all times. Our personnel are trained and directed to treat all individuals with professionalism and respect, particularly during peaceful public assemblies,” said Maranan.

He added that they have deployed personnel to key areas, especially where protest groups are expected to gather. A quick response team is also on standby to respond to any incidents or criminal activity.

The deployment is in line with directives from PNP Chief Police General Nicolas Torre III, aimed at ensuring public safety and protecting civil liberties.

“As we protect our communities, we also stand as guardians of democratic rights,” Maranan added.

Maranan urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative during the heightened security measures. He also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity so that authorities can respond swiftly.

As of now, no security threats have been reported in Central Visayas in connection with the President’s Sona. (AYB)
