POLICE in Central Visayas seized 248 illegal firearms and seven explosives in August 2026 as authorities stepped up operations against loose firearms, the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7) said.
The seizures were made during 250 police operations across the region that also led to the arrest of 120 people and the confiscation of 752 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad, PRO-7 director, said police will continue to pursue people involved in the illegal possession and sale of firearms, explosives and ammunition.
“The order of the chief PNP is clear — remove all illegal firearms through relentless operations. In response, PRO 7 is committed to sustaining the operational gains with the help of the community. I appeal for everyone’s help. Peace and security is a joint undertaking,” Abad said.
PRO 7 said its operations will include intelligence gathering and coordination with other government agencies and communities to address the illegal possession and use of firearms.
Police units across Central Visayas have been conducting operations against individuals and groups involved in the possession, use and sale of firearms and explosives.
Abad also urged the public to report information about illegal firearms and other prohibited weapons.
“Public safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage our communities to remain vigilant and report information that can help us prevent firearms and explosives from being used to harm our people,” he said.
