PARIS Saint-Germain (PSG) and Inter Milan are set for the much-awaited clash for the Champions League crown on Sunday (PH time), June 1, 2025, in Munich, with both clubs eager to put past disappointments behind them.
Europe’s most prestigious club trophy is up for grabs, and both teams are no strangers to heartbreak on the grand stage. Inter Milan came up short in the 2023 final against Manchester City, while PSG suffered defeat in their only final appearance, losing to Bayern Munich in 2020.
Despite massive financial investment and the acquisition of global stars such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, PSG is still in search of its first Champions League title. With those marquee names no longer at the club, manager Luis Enrique has built a dynamic new lineup featuring talents like Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Enrique, who guided Barcelona to Champions League success in 2015, is now eyeing a second title as a coach — and a rare distinction of winning it with two different clubs.
“The motivation for me is to win the Champions League title for the first time for PSG,” he said. “That is the gift I want to give the people, the club, the city.”
Inter, meanwhile, saw a potential treble slip away in recent weeks. The Italian side missed out on the Serie A title by a single point and was eliminated in the Coppa Italia semifinals. Now, the Champions League remains its last shot at silverware this season.
“These players in these four years did a lot — won a lot and lost sometimes. It happens. But we all gave our all, everyone. We are proud to be Inter,” coach Simone Inzaghi said. “I dreamed of playing the Champions League final. I didn’t do it as a player, but thanks to this group of players I’ve been in two finals as a head coach.”
Inter has lifted the European Cup three times in its history, with the most recent triumph coming in 2010. Now, both teams are aiming to seize their moment on the biggest stage in club football. / RSC
