A LARGE python was found coiling at the ceiling of a house in Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City.

The reptile, classified as a Python Reticulatus measuring three and a half meters in length and weighing around 35 kilograms, was turned over to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) on Thursday morning, March 20, 2025.

According to the Certificate of Wildlife Turnover, the Pajac Action Team, led by Rene Alison and Bonito Alegres, conducted the rescue operation in Sitio Kalubihan, Pajac.

The team captured the reptile that was seen coiling at the ceiling and was successfully turned over to Cenro Thursday morning for proper handling.

The snake will then be transferred to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Cenro 7 at Pier 3, Cebu City, for further disposition.

Two pythons were also rescued earlier this month in Barangays Calawisan and Punta EngaƱo on March 4, according to a SunStar Cebu report on March 5.

One python weighed 10 kilograms and measured two meters in length, while the other weighed five kilograms and was one and a half meters long.

Known for its striking, patterned scales, python is a non-venomous constrictor that hunts by ambushing and constricting its prey.

Cenro supervising environmental management specialist Jocelyn Abayan, in a previous interview, reminded everyone to leave these animals undisturbed if they come across them, as they pose no harm when left alone.

She stressed that wildlife plays a crucial role in the ecosystem, and harming them disrupts that balance. She urged proper action by turning these animals over to the authorities. / DPC
