The Department of Tourism (DOT) recently convened a significant gathering of culinary experts, tourism stakeholders and hotel executives at the NUSTAR Resort and Casino to strategically advance the Philippines’ status as a premier gastronomy destination.

The event, held on June 25, 2025, underscored the National Government’s commitment to integrating Filipino cuisine into the core of the country’s tourism development.

DOT Secretary Christina Frasco led the assembly of key figures in the culinary and tourism sectors. In her address, she emphasized the pivotal role of food and gastronomy in expressing cultural identity, creating economic opportunities and achieving global recognition.

A significant point of discussion was the upcoming debut of the Michelin Guide in the Philippines, which will feature establishments in Manila and Cebu.

As host venue, NUSTAR treated attendees to a specially curated menu that showcased innovative and modern interpretations of classic Filipino flavors. The culinary presentation was a testament to the creative potential of local ingredients, featuring dishes such as Prawn Kinilaw Pani Puri with Okra Salsa, Humba Popsicles with Soft-Boiled Quail Eggs, Bakasi Bonbons, Saang Sisig Tacos and the Balbacua Terrine with Busay Garden Greens and Lemoncito Vinaigrette, among others.

The meal concluded with a dessert medley celebrating the world-renowned Cebu mango, presented in three distinct ways: tiramisu, pavlova, and sans rival. The event ended on a sweet note, with representatives from both the public and private sectors coming together to solidify the Philippines’ reputation as a must-visit destination for food lovers worldwide.
