FUN. Moviegoers at Ayala Center Cebu got a taste of Krypto Dogs — do-it-yourself Hungarian sausage sandwiches — during the “Superman” screening on July 9, 2025. Adding to the excitement: a baby in full Superman costume, carried by a model dressed as the Man of Steel.

PARTY. The IMAX theater at SM City Cebu was buzzing during the special advanced screening of “Superman” on July 8, 2025. Models dressed as Superman and Lex Luthor made appearances, turning the movie night into a mini comic book showdown.

On opening week, Warner Bros. Philippines held a special advanced screening of “Superman” on July 8, 2025, at IMAX, SM City Cebu. Written and directed by James Gunn, this fresh take on one of pop culture’s most iconic superheroes revives a sense of wonder, hope, and joy for moviegoers of all ages.

Shot specifically for IMAX, the film was a true visual spectacle. The massive screen and enhanced 3D elements elevated the experience — a cinematic treat we have Warner Bros. and SM City Cebu to thank for.

Ayala Center Cebu also hosted its own screening on Opening Day, July 9, at the upgraded Cinema 2 featuring the Dolby Atmos surround sound system. Mall tenant Bad Boys Wingz handled the food — and the Krypto Dogs (DIY Hungarian sausage sandwiches) should absolutely become a regular menu item.

At the Ayala screening, I found myself more attuned to the story through its dialogue and immersed in the blockbuster experience. I predict ticket sales will soar by Week 2, boosted by strong word-of-mouth and glowing reviews for this latest entry in the new DC Universe.

“Superman” is a superhero family film that entertains and inspires. It’s packed with moments that will delight longtime fans and newcomers alike, even playfully nodding to the franchise’s most famous tropes — like the age-old question of how a simple pair of glasses could ever fool the world.

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. No wonder Clark Kent simply put on a pair of glasses to hide his identity. On a more practical note, I learned more about my eyes, style, and overall health when Vision Express held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its SM City Cebu branch on July 3. Catering was provided by Cebu-based pastry shop, Makalipie.

The launch, led by Vision Express Philippines president Neelam Gopwani, was a mix of fashion and eye care. The store is sleek and modern, stocked with designer eyewear and equipped with high-tech tools.

One standout feature is the AI-driven Virtual Styling Studio, which uses facial mapping to recommend frames based on face shape, skin tone and even hair color. It’s a fashion-meets-tech approach that makes choosing glasses feel both smart and stylish.

On the medical side, the SM Cebu branch offers Vision Express’s full 7-step eye exam — a thorough process that fine-tunes prescriptions and checks for potential eye issues, so you leave with clearer and healthier vision.

But the real highlight? Trying out the new VisionPlus AI health screening tool. In just minutes, the advanced retinal scan generated a full health report, flagging possible risks for hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and more — all through my eyes. It was eye-opening (pun unintended) and surprisingly fast. Best of all, VisionPlus exams are currently being offered free of charge, and I highly encourage Cebu residents to take advantage of it.
