VISAYAN Electric’s residential customers will see a P0.49/kWh decrease in electricity rates for the March to April billing cycle.
This brings the total rate down to P10.64/kWh from P11.13/kWh last month.
For a household consuming 200 kWh, this reduction translates to savings of at least P98 on their electricity bill.
This marks the fourth consecutive rate reduction since December 2024, primarily driven by lower electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), resulting in reduced generation charges.
Additionally, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has slightly lowered transmission charges, further contributing to the rate reduction.
Despite the decrease, Visayan Electric urges customers to remain mindful of their energy consumption, especially as temperatures continue to rise.
“High temperatures often lead to increased electricity consumption as people rely more on cooling appliances. This can result in higher electricity bills if not managed efficiently,” warned Visayan Electric President and COO Raul Lucero.
Recently, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported dangerously high heat index levels in some areas of the country.
While Cebu has not been included in the list, Visayan Electric advises consumers to stay out of direct sunlight and adopt energy-efficient cooling methods, such as natural ventilation and wearing thin, light-colored clothing. (PR)
