THE management of a resort based in Mandaue City has apologized to the Talisay City Government after a private garbage contractor hired to collect its waste was linked to an alleged attempt to illegally dump garbage in Barangay Jaclupan.
The apology was posted on the resort’s Facebook page on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, four days after Talisay City officials intercepted a wing van carrying the resort’s garbage in Sitio Tabok Sapa in Jaclupan on Monday, Aug. 3.
Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. said they would file appropriate criminal, civil and administrative cases against every individual and establishment found responsible for the alleged illegal dumping.
Waterworld Cebu Philippines Corp., for its part, said it learned of the incident only after reports surfaced on social media.
“We are deeply sorry for the concern, inconvenience and disappointment this incident has caused,” it said.
The resort management said it never authorized or tolerated the unlawful disposal of waste, adding that the contractor was “newly engaged by the company, in good faith, for the collection, transportation and proper disposal of accumulated waste in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.”
The company said it immediately launched an internal investigation and was cooperating fully with government authorities.
“Should it be established that the contractor acted outside the scope of its engagement or violated applicable laws, the company will pursue all appropriate legal and contractual remedies to ensure accountability,” it said.
The resort described the incident as isolated and said it would exercise greater diligence in hiring service providers. / CDF
