CEBU City Transportation Office (CCTO) head Raquel Arce has urged the public and motorists to plan their trips in advance as several road closures and rerouting of public transport will be implemented for the remaining activities of the Sinulog Festival, scheduled from January 17 to 19, 2025.
Concerns about parking space have been addressed to ensure that event venues, such as the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu, remain accessible to devotees and spectators.
CCTO deputy chief Kent Francis Jongoy said that Osmeña Boulevard, starting from Fuente Osmeña Circle, will be closed on Sunday at 2 a.m. to accommodate the arrival and placement of props for the 45 contingents set to perform at the CCSC.
By 8 a.m. the same day, there will be a total road closure within the Sinulog Carousel Route.
The CCTO will enforce a no-parking policy around the Sinulog Carousel Route, as indicated by existing traffic signage.
Jongoy added that the City Council has approved the involvement of private towing companies to remove unauthorized vehicles parked in undesignated areas.
Arce clarified that CCTO personnel will issue the initial violation tickets to erring drivers, after which private towing companies, under the direction of CCTO enforcers, will tow the vehicles.
Erring drivers will be required to pay the corresponding fines at the CCTO office in addition to the towing fees charged by the private companies.
Towed vehicles will be brought to Block 27 at the North Reclamation Area and will only be released upon full payment of all dues.
More than 500 CCTO personnel will be deployed to manage traffic and enforce road closures within and around the parade route. (EHP)
